This Gateway Award Nominee 2019-2020 is a great read!  The only way I can describe it without spoiling it, is to say Nyxia book coverit’s like Ender’s Game mixed with The Hunger Games.  It’s full of adventure and suspense, with some fun twists thrown in for extra spice.

The main character is a street-smart kid, whose family is poor, with a mother dying of cancer.  A large corporation chooses him for a task that only young adults can succeed in, travel to the planet Eden, survive the native peoples, and mine a new element, nyxia.  Only a certain number of the teens chosen will finish the testing process and earn the ticket to the planet, but for those who do, they will be rewarded with more money than they had ever dreamt of.  While he’s traveling to the planet, trying to stay high on the leader board, his mom will have access to the corporation’s doctors for free.  Who could possibly turn down an opportunity like that?

As the group travels, they make friends and enemies, secrets are revealed, and people die.  This all happens BEFORE the twist towards the end of the book!  The Winfield High School library just got this book, and we already have the sequel, so I hope you guys get to reading!
